Orange Shirt Sunday on September 27, 2026, leading up to Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 – Remember to wear orange.
Review of basic first aid, use of a defibrillator, CPR and fall prevention for seniors
All are welcome to a review of basic first aid, use of a defibrillator, CPR and fall prevention for seniors at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Wednesday, October 7th from 10 to 2. Being along a bag lunch and beverages will be provided.
If you plan to attend, please let Jan Heffer know (705-286-2136) as approximate numbers will help the organizers.
We got the word, the oil tanks for our two furnaces need to be replaced. This gives us an opportunity to move to a more sustainable option for heating and cooling our Church. The Property Committee has examined and received quotes for a range of options. At the last Board Meeting it was decided to proceed with a Heat Pump system with a propane backup supplied by Walkers Heating who provided the best all round quote. Total cost of the system is approximately $50,000.
The Trustees of the Church have secured a favourable loan from the Toronto United Church Council to assist in the financing of the installation. This has been done with the approval of our Regional Council, ECORC. In order to reduce the amount of the loan needed, Highland Hills is launching a fundraising drive – “Warm Your Soul”. Here is how you can contribute.
Make a donation directly by:
ü Including in your weekly envelope noting the $$ amount for the furnace
ü Including in separate envelope marked Furnace Fund. Include your name for receipting purposes.
ü Include in PAR by arranging with Don Pflug. His email is donaldpflug@gmail.com
ü e Transfer to highlandhillspc2020@gmail.com Note in the comments box that the monies are for “Warm Your Soul”.
ü By credit card at Canada Helps. Search for Highland Hills United Church at
canadahelps.org. Choose the Building Fund option and add a message “For Warm Your Soul”.
Friday, Nov. 13 “Warm Your Soul” Fundraiser
A turkey dinner with all the trimmings at 5:00 pm followed by an Oh Canada! concert highlighting the music of Gordon Lightfoot and Neil Young at 7:00.
Dinner: $35. Concert: $25. or both $60.00.

For those traveling south on Hwy 35 be prepared for delays. The Hwy is going to be getting a new covering and the company is busy prepping the sides of the road in preparation for the new pavement from Minden south to The City of Kawartha Lakes boundary.
Diner’s Club: Our Diner’s Club convener this year is Jean Anton, and it is being held on the second Thursday of every month at noon; next one is on Thursday, October 8th. If you are interested in any future dinners, please call Jean to get on the calling list at 705-286-3756.
Thanksgiving Food Drive September 13th to October 11th You are invited to share food or money to purchase food for those in need. Let’s help others enjoy Thanksgiving too. Money does go farther as Minden Community Food Centre gets the best price for food.

Knitting For Warmth meets each Tuesday at 1:00 – 3:30 pm. HHUC Lower Level. For more information about KFW contact Mary at 705-286-5173.
A Time of Fellowship after church
Reminder that we need the congregation to sign-up to help set up, clean up and donate goodies for the after-church Time of Fellowship. Please sign up on the sign-up sheet by the kitchen opening.
AUTUMN BOOK STUDY — the books have been ordered for our study for those who indicated they wanted a copy? Debbie Sherwin will pick them up from Master’s bookstore when they arrive. The cost, with tax, will be $25.00, paid to Debbie.
The study sessions will be Monday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, beginning on October 5 and go to November 16 but We will not meet on Oct. 12, Thanksgiving Monday.
Truth and Reconciliation
Part of Truth and Reconciliation is learning more. The Royal Ontario Museum has a new exhibit Stolen Childhoods. It shares the lived experiences of children at the Mohawk Institute, the longest running residential school in Canada. The “mush-hole” as it was called is in Brantford.
Created by the Survivors’ Secretariat it features records, photos, interviews and a 7-foot sculpture. Visitors are invited to reflect, learn, and take part in ongoing conversations about truth, justice and reconciliation. Visit the ROM web site for more information.
Birthdays – it’s a Party
Please join us in celebrating Amanda's and E's birthday on October 16th with a birthday Potluck & Games night. No gifts please. In the Lower Hall of the church. Starting at 5:00 until 8:00ish
