The Gathering

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS:

FOCUSING ON THE LIGHT OF CHRIST:

Quiet Preparation for Worship & Christ Candle Lighting:

Listen: for the God who created us says, “Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. You are precious to me. I love you, I honour you, I am with you.”

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF LAND:

We acknowledge that we are worshipping on the traditional territories of the Anishinabek and Mississauga peoples and all peoples who make their home in the Treaty 20 and the Williams Treaty of East Central Ontario.

THE APPROACH

CALL TO WORSHIP:

One:    Wherever you go, from the top of the highest mountain or into the deep abysses of the earth, God knows you.

ALL:  Wherever we go, God knows our name.

One:    Whatever you do, from the time you wake up until you lay your head down again, God knows you.

ALL:  Whatever we do, God knows our name.

One:    However you live, from your inner thoughts to your public acts and everything in between, God knows you.

ALL:  However we live, God knows our name.

One:    We gather to worship God, who loves us, knows us, and calls us by name.

ALL:  We gather to worship God, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God who knows our name!

HYMN: “O Lord My God”    VU #238

1     O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder

consider all the works thy hand hath made,

I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,

thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,

How great thou art! How great thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,

How great thou art! How great thou art!

2     When through the woods and forest glades I wander,

       I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;

when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur

and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.  R

3     But when I think that God, his Son not sparing,

sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,

that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,

he bled and died to take away my sin.  R

4     When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation

and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!

Then I shall bow in humble adoration

and there proclaim, 'My God, how great thou art!'  R

PRAYER FOR THE DAY

All-knowing God,
We gather together with praise and thanksgiving
for who You are,
and for all that You have done for us.

You know us better than we know ourselves—
all our thoughts and actions—
and yet You love us.

No matter where we go or what we do,
Your love encircles us—ahead and behind—
gently leading and guiding and blessing.
We praise You for Your love
and Your faithful presence in our lives.

May Your Spirit move in our hearts and minds as we worship together—
examine our attitudes and actions,
lay bare the things we need to confess,
challenge us with Your Word,
and guide us on to paths that lead to life.

For we are Your people, called by Your name.
Amen.

MINISTRY OF MUSIC:

LEARNING TOGETHER:

HYMN:   “All the Way My Saviour Leads Me” VU #635

1      All the way my Saviour leads me;

what have I to ask beside?

Can I doubt his tender mercy

who through life has been my guide?

        Heavenly peace, divinest comfort,

here by faith in him to dwell,

for I know, whate'er befall me,

            Jesus doeth all things well.

2      All the way my Saviour leads me,

cheers each winding path I tread,

gives me grace for every trial,

feeds me with the living bread.

Though my weary steps may falter,

and my soul athirst may be,

gushing from the rock before me,

lo, a spring of joy I see!

3      All the way my Saviour leads me;

O the fullness of his love!

Perfect rest to me is promised

            in my Father's house above.

        When my spirit, clothed, immortal,

wings its flight to realms of day,

this my song through endless ages,

'Jesus led me all the way!'

THE WORD

Scripture:  :  Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18

Leader: Hear and listen to what the Spirit is saying to the church.

   ALL:      Thanks be to God.

OUR RESPONSE

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE and

       THE LORD’S PRAYER spoken

HYMN  “Spirit of the Living God”             VU #376

1     Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mould me, fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

2     Spirit of the living God, move among us all;

make us one in heart and mind, make us one in love:

       humble, caring, selfless, sharing.

Spirit of the living God, fill our lives with love!

 AFFIRMING MOMENT:

PRESENTATION OF OUR OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY PRAYER:         In Unison

Tender and knowing God, you have searched us and known us—every thought, every fear, every hope that stirs within. You wove us together with care, claiming us before we could speak your name. Receive these gifts, offered not from perfection but from hearts seeking you. Use them to shape a world more reflective of your love and shape us, too, into a people more open, more generous, more faithful. May our giving become a response to your knowing and our generosity a reflection of your grace. In the name of the one who knows us still.           Amen.

SUNG BLESSING   VU #232 vs 1

1          Joyful, Joyful, we adore you God of Glory life and love,

Hearts unfold like flowers before you, opening to the Sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the gloom of doubt away;

Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

SENDING FORTH:

May you go from this place carrying the blessing and assurance that the Triune God, Creator of the universe, knows your name. Amen.
